Lake Orta Italy

It was back in the 16th century when Lago di San Giulio’s name was changed to Lake Orta and along its shorelines you can find the beauty that Italy is so popular for. The region around Lake Orta is renowned for its picturesque landscape and beauty especially on San Giulio Island. But when visiting this awe inspiring northern Italy lake, the place to be is Orta San Giulio which is a peninsula which can be found projecting into the eastern side of the lake.

A glacial lake, Lake Orta used to be part of Lake Maggiore as part of the flow for the ancient Toce as it flowed in a southernly direction. Since the times of the glaciers though the level of the water has since gone down drastically and much of it found its way into Lake Maggiore.

Featuring placid and cool waters, one can stroll down any number of Orta San Giulio’s cobblestone paths or even take a leisurely boat ride to the awe inspiring Island of San Giulio. Couple all of this remarkable beauty with the alpine mountains in the background and you have a memorable holiday awaiting for you at Lake Orta.

There are a number of great hotels, villas as well as apartments to stay in while visiting this magnificent lake as well as many different sites to see along its shorelines. The best part is that there are many packaged holiday deals to Lake Orta which includes airfare and a one week stay along the shores of this magnificent glacial lake.
